Edits & segments: how cutting works

An edit is an ordered list of transcript segments. Build them by hand, by drag, or by asking the AI.

Storylines edits are text-based: an edit is an ordered list of segments, and each segment is a span of a source's transcript (with exact in/out times). Cutting means choosing and ordering spans of what was said.

Three ways to build one:

Edits are non-destructive — sources are never modified, so ten edits can slice the same interview ten ways. Polish passes that help most cuts: remove filler words, subtitles, and beat-snapping cuts to music. When the cut ships, export it to your NLE.
